Recognizing it

How people describe OCD

OCD is less about neatness than about doubt that will not accept an answer.

01

Just one more check

The lock, the email, the route you drove. Each check calms things for a moment, then the doubt comes back.

02

Asking to be told it is fine

You ask your partner, search online or confess a thought to get relief. The comfort fades faster each time.

03

Thoughts that feel like a threat

An unwanted image or urge shows up and feels dangerous simply because you had it. You work hard to cancel it out.

What we practice

What OCD counseling in Katy works on

  • Seeing the cycle clearlyWriting out what sets off the doubt, what you do to settle it, and what that costs you each day.
  • Loosening one ritual at a timeCutting back a check or a reassurance question in planned, agreed steps, starting with the easiest.
  • Making room for uncertaintyPracticing letting a doubt stay unresolved while you carry on with your day.
  • Choosing by values, not fearUsing what matters to you to decide what to do next, instead of what the doubt demands.

How it runs here

OCD treatment on Kingsland Boulevard

You and your counselor build the plan together, deciding which rituals to work on and in what order. Every practice step is agreed in advance, and you can slow it down.

The methods are mainly cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

How ACT with exposure compares with ERP

ERP (exposure and response prevention) has the most research behind it for OCD. ACT has also been studied for OCD in trials of its own.

In a head-to-head trial, ACT combined with exposure did as well as ERP on its own, with both groups improving. That is the approach offered here.

Prefer a structured ERP program? Say so on the form and we can point you to one.

Before you book

Common questions about OCD counseling in Katy

Do I need to know it is OCD before booking?

Book with whatever you have noticed. Plenty of people describe a checking habit or a thought they cannot shake, and the name comes later.

Is it OCD or ADHD?

Both can look like trouble finishing tasks. In OCD you get stuck because something does not feel right or safe yet; in ADHD, attention drifts away before the task is done.

Some people have both, and the two can pull in opposite directions. We also offer ADHD therapy for adults in Katy.

Why does reassurance stop working?

Each answer teaches your mind that the doubt needed answering, so the next doubt arrives sooner. Counseling helps you sit through the urge to ask, so the question can fade without an answer.

Can my family help?

Relatives can get pulled into checking or reassurance, often out of love. Individual counseling can help you ask for support without keeping the cycle going.

What is a first session like?

It starts with one short form, in your own words. We read it, match you with a counselor, and tell you the estimated cost before you book.

From there you can start with a free consultation or go straight to a first session with your counselor. Sessions are weekly and one to one, in person at our Kingsland Boulevard office or by secure video from anywhere in Texas.

You can describe the thoughts in general terms at first; your counselor will not push for details before you are ready.

What if the first counselor is not the right fit?

Tell us. Fit matters more than almost anything else in whether counseling helps, so we do not treat it as a complaint.

Under the Reset, your first session with a new counselor is free. The Reset is about fit only, not a promise about results.

Start with what this week has been like

Acceptance Path Counseling provides weekly counseling from licensed Texas counselors, in person at our office in Katy and by secure video across Texas. We are not a psychiatry practice and do not prescribe medication.

We do not offer group therapy, psychological testing, or intensive or inpatient programs, and will help you find them if you need them. Counseling is not an emergency service.
