Where couples tend to get stuck

It is usually a pattern, not one bad night.

  • The same argument, again

It starts with the dishes or a late text and ends somewhere much older. By the end, neither of you remembers how it began.

  • Housemates who used to be close

The calendar works and the bills get paid. You talk about logistics and not much else.

  • A decision that keeps stalling

Moving, money, children, or whether to stay together. Each of you is waiting for the other to give way.

What couples counseling works on

  • Arguments that go somewhereSlowing a fight down early enough that each of you can finish a sentence.
  • Saying what you needAsking for something directly, instead of listing what the other person got wrong.
  • Repair after a ruptureComing back to each other after a bad fight, a broken promise or a breach of trust.
  • Decisions you can both live withWorking through the big questions at a pace that lets each of you say what you actually think.

How couples counseling works at Acceptance Path

Both of you meet with the same counselor, in person at our Houston-Willowbrook office on Haynes Road or our Woodlands office on Sawdust Road, or by secure video.

Living near Katy? See couples counseling in Katy for how that works.

The first sessions are about what each of you wants to change and what you have already tried. The counselor’s job is to help both of you be heard, not to decide who is right.

If your partner is not ready yet, you can start on your own. Couples sessions can begin when they decide to join.

When couples counseling is not the right start

If you are afraid of your partner, or one of you is being hurt or controlled, start with individual support instead. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is free and confidential at 1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788.

What couples counseling costs

$150 A session with a fully licensed counselor
$100 A session with an associate counselor
Insurance Checked first, since plans differ on couples sessions

These are our standard self-pay rates, the same for couples as for individuals. We confirm which one applies before your first session.

A limited sliding scale is available, and self-pay clients get a written Good Faith Estimate before the first session.

Some plans pay for couples sessions and some do not, depending on the plan and why you are coming in. We check your benefits and tell you the estimated cost before you book, and our guide to what marriage counseling costs has the details.

Common questions about couples counseling

Do we have to be married?

No. Our counselors see couples, married or not.

What if my partner is not ready to come?

You can start on your own. Individual counseling can work on your side of the pattern, and couples sessions can begin later if your partner decides to join.

Can we have couples sessions by video?

Yes, by secure video, as long as you are both in Texas for the session. Say so on the form and we will set it up.

Does insurance cover couples counseling?

Sometimes. Many plans pay only when counseling treats a diagnosed mental health condition, so coverage for couples sessions depends on your plan and why you are coming in.

We check your benefits and tell you the estimated cost before you book.

How much is a session without insurance?

Sessions are $150 with a fully licensed counselor and $100 with an associate, and we tell you which applies. A limited sliding scale is also available.

Self-pay clients get a written Good Faith Estimate before the first session.

How soon can we start?

Couples are seen within the week. You get the time and the estimated cost before anything is booked.

How do we get started?

On the short form, choose “Me and my partner”. We match you with a counselor who sees couples and tell you the estimated cost before anything is booked.

From there you can start with a free consultation or go straight to a first session.

Do we each fill out paperwork?

Yes. Each of you gets your own intake paperwork, sent to your own phone or email.

What if the counselor is not the right fit?

If the fit is wrong, tell us and we will match you with a different counselor. Your first session with them is free.

The Reset is about fit only, not a promise about results.

Start with what has been happening between you

A free consultation, an appointment within the week, and the estimated cost before anything is booked.
