Recognizing it

How people describe BPD

People with BPD often feel things more intensely and for longer than those around them, and are exhausted by it.

01

From calm to unbearable

A small change of plan or tone can set off a flood of hurt or anger. Settling again may not happen until evening.

02

Scanning for signs of leaving

A slow reply or a canceled plan can feel like proof that someone is pulling away. You hold on tighter, or leave first.

03

Quick actions, long regret

In the heat of the moment you say, spend or do something drastic. Guilt and shame arrive afterwards.

What we practice

What BPD counseling in Katy works on

  • Riding the waveSkills to bring an emotional surge down a level before deciding what to do.
  • Questioning the first storyChecking the conclusion that someone is angry or leaving before you act on it.
  • A plan for the worst hoursWritten steps for urges to hurt yourself or lash out, made in a calm moment and kept close.
  • Something steady to stand onNaming what you care about and turning it into small daily habits, so there is ground under you when feelings swing.

How it runs here

BPD treatment on Kingsland Boulevard

BPD counseling here keeps a steady frame: the same weekly slot, agreed goals, and skills you practice between appointments. If tension builds between you and your counselor, that gets talked through too.

The methods are mainly cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

Is a DBT program the only option for BPD?

DBT is the best-known therapy for BPD. In trials that compared it directly with other well-structured treatments, results were broadly similar.

CBT has its own trials in BPD too. We have also seen plenty of clients do well with ACT here at Acceptance Path Counseling.

Prefer a complete DBT program, skills group included? We can point you to one.

Before you book

Common questions about BPD counseling in Katy

What if I only suspect BPD?

Plenty of people start there. Some come with a diagnosis, some with something they read online, and some only know that their feelings hit harder than other people’s.

Sorting out what fits happens over your early sessions.

Is it BPD or complex PTSD?

They share intense emotions and difficult relationships, and both often follow early trauma. Complex PTSD also brings flashbacks and a lasting sense of being damaged, while BPD centers more on fear of abandonment and an unstable sense of who you are.

Some people meet the criteria for both. We also offer PTSD treatment in Katy.

Can counseling help when BPD affects my relationship?

Individual counseling can help you notice relationship patterns, manage intense feelings and plan conversations outside the session. Tell us what you want help with so we can find a counselor who fits.

What if I am in crisis between sessions?

Call or text 988 at any hour, or 911 if anyone’s life is at risk. Between sessions, the safety plan you write with your counselor is there to follow.

What is a first session like?

It starts with one short form, in your own words. We read it, match you with a counselor, and tell you the estimated cost before you book.

From there you can start with a free consultation or go straight to a first session with your counselor. Sessions are weekly and one to one, in person at our Kingsland Boulevard office or by secure video from anywhere in Texas.

Raising self-harm or suicidal thoughts in the first session means your counselor can build a safety plan with you from the start.

What if the first counselor is not the right fit?

Tell us. Fit matters more than almost anything else in whether counseling helps, so we do not treat it as a complaint.

Under the Reset, your first session with a new counselor is free. The Reset is about fit only, not a promise about results.

Start with what this week has been like

Acceptance Path Counseling provides weekly counseling from licensed Texas counselors, in person at our office in Katy and by secure video across Texas. We are not a psychiatry practice and do not prescribe medication.

We do not offer group therapy, psychological testing, or intensive or inpatient programs, and will help you find them if you need them. Counseling is not an emergency service.
