Recognizing it
How bipolar disorder can unfold over time
Many people are treated for depression for years before the highs are recognized.

Sleep feels unnecessary, thoughts race and every idea seems brilliant. Spending and risk can climb fast.
Then the drop
Energy and mood fall away, and even small tasks feel huge. Days blur together.
The aftermath
Repairing money, work and relationships after an episode takes time and effort. So can living with the worry of the next one.
What we practice
What bipolar disorder counseling in Katy works on
- 1Your personal warning signsWriting down the first changes you notice before your mood lifts or sinks, and choosing in advance who you will tell.
- 2Protecting sleep and routineKeeping regular hours for sleep, meals and activity, since an upended schedule can knock mood off balance.
- 3Agreements for high periodsPlans made while you are well, such as waiting 48 hours before big purchases.
- 4Making peace with the diagnosisUnderstanding the condition, handling stigma, and deciding how to talk about it with the people around you.
How it runs here
Therapy for bipolar disorder on Kingsland Boulevard
Counseling here supports your medical care rather than replacing it, with a focus on routines, early signs and relationships. With your consent, your counselor can stay in touch with your prescriber.
The methods are mainly cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).
Counseling next to your medical care
Most people with bipolar disorder are also under the care of a psychiatrist or another prescribing clinician. Counseling runs next to that care, and our counselors never prescribe or adjust medication.
We will help you find a prescriber if you do not have one yet.

Common questions about bipolar disorder counseling in Katy
Can I begin before I have a diagnosis?
Yes. If you wonder whether your mood swings amount to bipolar disorder, counseling can start while a psychiatrist looks into it.
Is it bipolar disorder or BPD?
The two are often confused because both involve big mood changes. In bipolar disorder a shift lasts days or weeks and changes sleep and energy, while in BPD moods move within hours, usually in response to people.
Some people have both, and sorting it out shapes the whole plan. We also offer BPD treatment in Katy.
What should I do if a high or a low is starting?
Call your prescriber first, because a weekly session cannot manage an episode that is already under way. For any danger, call or text 988, or dial 911.
Can family learn the warning signs too?
They can, and support at home may help. In individual sessions, your counselor can help you decide what to share with relatives and how they can respond to early changes.
What is a first session like?
It starts with one short form, in your own words. We read it, match you with a counselor, and tell you the estimated cost before you book.
From there you can start with a free consultation or go straight to a first session with your counselor. Sessions are weekly and one to one, in person at our Kingsland Boulevard office or by secure video from anywhere in Texas.
If you have a prescriber, have their name handy; a rough timeline of past highs and lows helps too.
What if the first counselor is not the right fit?
Tell us. Fit matters more than almost anything else in whether counseling helps, so we do not treat it as a complaint.
Under the Reset, your first session with a new counselor is free. The Reset is about fit only, not a promise about results.
